Eastern Painted Turtle

The Painted Turtle (Chrysemys picta) is a freshwater turtle commonly found in ponds, lakes, marshes, and slow-moving streams throughout much of North America.

Recognizable by its smooth dark shell and vibrant red and yellow markings along its edges and skin, it is often seen basking on logs, rocks, or other exposed surfaces near the water. Its diet consists of aquatic plants, insects, crustaceans, and small aquatic animals.

Painted Turtles rely on sunlight to regulate their body temperature and are most active during warmer months when they feed, bask, and breed in freshwater habitats.
