Eastern Chipmunk

The Eastern Chipmunk (Tamias striatus) is a small, energetic mammal commonly found in deciduous forests, suburban woodlands, and rocky areas across eastern North America.

Easily recognized by its striped back and quick, darting movements, it is often seen foraging on the ground or pausing briefly at burrow entrances to scan its surroundings. Its diet consists mainly of nuts, seeds, fruits, and insects, which it frequently stores in underground caches for later use.

This species is primarily solitary and highly alert, with peak activity during daylight hours. For photographers, it offers excellent opportunities to capture fast motion, expressive behavior, and detailed close-ups in natural woodland settings.
