The Groundhog (Marmota monax), also known as a Woodchuck, is a large burrowing mammal commonly found in fields, meadows, woodland edges, and suburban areas throughout eastern North America.
Recognizable by its stocky body, brown fur, and powerful claws, it is often seen grazing in open areas or emerging from its extensive underground burrow system. Its diet consists primarily of grasses, plants, fruits, and other vegetation.
Groundhogs are skilled diggers and spend much of their time creating burrows used for shelter, raising young, and hibernation during the winter months.
