The Green Heron (Butorides virescens) is a small and stocky wading bird commonly found along the edges of ponds, marshes, streams, and wetlands throughout much of North America. 

Recognizable by its dark greenish-black cap, chestnut-colored neck, and compact build, it is often seen perched quietly among shoreline vegetation before striking quickly at prey. Its diet consists primarily of small fish, amphibians, crustaceans, and aquatic insects. 

Unlike many larger herons, the Green Heron frequently hunts from low perches and is one of the few bird species known to use bait, such as insects or feathers, to lure fish within striking distance.

The Little Blue Heron (Egretta caerulea) is a medium-sized wading bird commonly found in freshwater marshes, coastal wetlands, ponds, and shallow waterways throughout the southeastern United States, Central America, and the Caribbean. 

Recognizable by its slate-blue plumage, long neck, and slender dark bill, it is often seen slowly stalking through shallow water in search of prey. Its diet consists mainly of small fish, amphibians, crustaceans, and aquatic insects. Juveniles display mostly white plumage before gradually transitioning into their adult coloration. 

During breeding season, Little Blue Herons become more social, forming nesting colonies with other wading birds in trees or dense vegetation near water.

The Great Egret (Ardea alba) is a large wading bird commonly found in marshes, wetlands, ponds, and coastal waterways throughout much of the Americas. 

Recognizable by its brilliant white plumage, long neck, and sharp yellow bill, it is often seen standing motionless in shallow water before striking quickly at prey. Its diet consists primarily of fish, amphibians, crustaceans, and aquatic insects. 

During breeding season, Great Egrets develop delicate ornamental plumes that were once highly sought after in the feather trade. Elegant and patient hunters, they are among the most iconic birds of North American wetlands.

The Great Blue Heron (Ardea herodias) is a large wading bird commonly found in wetlands, marshes, rivers, and shorelines across much of North America. 

Known for its tall stature, long neck, and sharp dagger-like bill, it is often seen standing motionless at the water’s edge as it hunts. This species feeds primarily on fish, amphibians, and small aquatic animals, striking quickly after long periods of stillness. 

It is mostly solitary outside of breeding colonies, where it nests high in trees and becomes more social and active.
