The Double-Crested Cormorant (Nannopterum auritum) is a large aquatic bird commonly found along coastlines, lakes, and rivers throughout North America. Dark-bodied with a slender hooked bill and distinctive double crest during breeding season, it is often seen perched with wings outstretched to dry after diving.
This species is an expert swimmer and diver, feeding primarily on fish captured underwater. It nests in colonies near water and becomes more active and social during breeding season, with visible courtship displays and nesting activity.
